Like White (Trash) On Rice

So, the other day, I went with a friend to Aldi’s. While I was in the frozen food section, looking at the frozen ravioli, I heard a noise that sounded like scratching or rain falling on a tin roof. Right about then, my friend came up behind me and was like “Oh my god, you gotta see this. You won’t believe it.” I kinda hesitated before turning around and sarcastically said ‘Oh god, don’t tell me. There’s mice in something’ (also an audible possibility, considering the background noise I’d been hearing). I turned around and saw a girl (one old enough to know better) in the rice display box, ankle-deep in bags of rice, picking up handfuls of loose rice (no doubt from busted bags) from the bottom of the display box and letting it slip through her fingers, back into the box; imagine if you or I found a treasure chest and we were grabbing fistfuls of gold coins and letting them fall through our fingers. I stood there mesmerized. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I walked past her several times, thinking surely she’d stop once she was noticed…but nope. She was oblivious. Completely enthralled with what she was doing. Needless to say, I was able to get a picture. It was just too surreal not to. The manager noticed me taking a picture and made her get out of the box and she scuttled away, happily talking to herself and twirling. We never saw her parents or whomever she came in with, if anyone. Mentally-challenged/autistic schmautistic, etc., where-the-fuck are her parents?

While running errands with a friend yesterday in Dallas, he FINALLY took me to a store he’s been wanting to show me for years; Dolly Python. The funny thing is, every time he decided to take me, for one reason or another, it was closed. However, knowing it was my destiny, we kept trying, and I finally got to take a look inside! It was great! Totally my tastes; very eclectic, a little dark & slightly askew. How can you not love a store that still carries Swatches, records AND vintage clothes (and everything in between)? King Kong lunchbox (circa 1976; a personal favorite)? You got it! Creepy, crunchy dolls & mannequins? You got it! Groovy vintage furniture? Oh yeaaah. If I’d had anything besides lint in my pocket, I would have definitely not left empty-handed. But, tomorrow is another day. I’ll definitely be back. There was a vintage porcelain pill counter I had my eye on. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Yes! Click here to be magically transported to my Flickr account and see the rest of the photos.*

*Sorry the photos aren’t as crisp as they could’ve been. I was using my iPhone instead an actual digital camera (the iPhone sucks in low-light environments; I love you Apple, but you know it’s true)…plus, I was trying to be incognito. I never know who’s gonna freak out over my obsession with documenting my outings, via digital camera. I used to ask (and sometimes still do), but more often than not, it makes an otherwise simple gesture, awkward and overly-complicated. In this case, my friend and I know the owners, so I don’t think they would mind.

This weekend I had the opportunity to work at the 48th Annual Dolly Johnson Antique & Art Show in Fort Worth. It was ocular overload! I took a few pictures. You can check them out here in my Flickr set titled ‘Dolly Johnson Show.’

Eyecandy Overload!

As I mentioned last week, I now have AppleTV up and running, and have been tweaking it and exploring it ever since. One of the features it offers is a ‘Screensaver’ that, not unlike your computer, kicks in after a specified period of time, when the TV has not been used. I like to run the screensaver option while I listen to internet radio via the TV.

Well, in addition to a couple of built-in (boring) photo options: Animals & Plants, you also are given the option of accessing your Flickr account, and therefore your Flickr “contacts.” Flickr contacts are people you are either friends with OR whose images you enjoy.

In short: I am in eyecandy nirvana! Seriously. I’ve included thumbnails of some of my favorite contacts (as far as screensaver imagery goes). And, at the risk of sounding immodest, I must admit that I’ve created an AppleTV folder of my very own (of my own photography), which I think looks dynamite as a screensaver. I’ve even impressed myself (no small task)!

So, on the off chance that you own AppleTV or even if you just love looking at beautiful, colorful, high-graphic imagery, it doesn’t get much cooler than this: (Click on image group to go to their Flickr page {the last two image groups are mine} )
