As you may or may not know (via Facebook), a friend of mine recently got a new Blu-Ray player and gave me their old one (my first!). Needless to say, I was excited to get it.
Though it may not be the case, I feel like I’m one of the last of the Mohicans to jump on the Blu-Ray wagon. Being the proud owner of a very large DVD collection, I stubbornly denounced Blu-Ray. I don’t care what the commercials say, I still contend that DVDs will NOT be going the way of the Laser Disc, Betamax and/or VHS any time soon. Why, you may ask? Because there are just waaaay too many obscure movies, serials, documentaries, TV shows, etc. that will never see the Blu-Ray treatment. Just not gonna happen. I own a lot of those obscure titles, so I remain a multi-format person. Hell, I still cherish my LPs, CDs, books and other ‘dead’ formats. Suck on that D.A.R.Y.L. (or other contemporary cyborg of your choice). Continue reading
