You Spin Me ‘Round

Being that it’s hot-as-hell outside, summer is officially here in Texas. AND even though I’ve lived here my entire life, I still hate and dread it every year. It was 107º in my car yesterday, but fell to a refreshing 104º by the time I arrived at home. Today’s high is 108º, it’s currently 104º. The forecast calls for triple degree temperatures, fluctuating between 102º- 108º through Sunday, with next week’s forecast, cooling off with a week of mere 100º. Ugh.

So, with that said, I thought it would be apropos to share with you some vinyl record art (primarily sculptures) that I found online. I find it fascinating and sad, all at the same time. On the one hand, it’s cool that some people have found a way to upcycle something that may otherwise be left unwanted, BUT it’s sad to see a medium that you once loved (and still do!), reduced to mere arts & crafts material, however ingenious. I realize times change, but to continuously read that the artists are using a “dead format” makes me sad. It’s not that it makes me feel “old” or “out of touch”, but, to me, I feel all mediums of music are valid and worthwhile, even if the times dictate otherwise. It smacks of disrespectful.

ANYWAY, here is the link to the article and HERE is the little digital refreshment you may be looking for (it’s an old friend I utilize throughout the year). Enjoy!

This heat is freaking killing me. The boys and I are hiding indoors, the dogs are laying on the cold tile, and the f-cking electric bill is going through the roof.

The record sculptures are cool and sad to see at the same time. We have records and play them. I like the fact that my little guys know what records and a record player are. 🙂

Stay cool, my friend.
