First off, I had to share with you the funniest thing about a box of Girl Scout cookies:

“Use or freeze before Sept. 2012” Hilarious! Like those bitches are gonna make it till the end of the week.

Secondly, while we’re on the subject of Girl Scouts, I gotta chime in with my 2ยข about this recent hubbub about the whole “transgender” child whose mother basically bullied his/her way into a club that was initially exclusively female.

For those unfamiliar with the story, you can read about it here. That’ll save me time doing the whole exposition thing. Continue reading

A few weeks ago I visited one of my favorite stores: Hong Kong Supermarket. I love going there because I LOVE looking at just about everything, especially the packaging design; it’s all so colorful and fun. I stocked up on my favorite Japanese udon noodles (like Ramen, but better!) and cappuccino pocky (Japanese snack cookie) and even bought some new rice bowls with koi on them and a package of orange plastic chopsticks. The trailer makes the film seem as if the film is going to be about this wacky misfit brother and his inability to navigate within the real world. Well, it’s partly right. Less wacky and more story…lots of story. This movie is about family dynamics. Continue reading

Jean-Paul Gaultier @ The DMA

I went to see the Jean-Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art* yesterday, with my friend Erik. It was brilliant.

Though I, myself, am not what I would consider fashion forward, I do love eyecandy in all its guises. So, it goes without saying that I was in awe of so many of the pieces. And although I grew up in the age of Madonna and her cone bra phenomena, I wasn’t so enraptured by the things I knew about, but more so about the things I hadn’t seen before and/or the newer designs.

My knowledge of Gaultier is more pop culture-based than fashion-based, so it was a real pleasure to get to see the clothes up close and personal. The detail is incredible and I’ve always been a fan of Gaultier’s “outside the box” approach to design and what constitutes it. Very Pop. Continue reading
