Sole Plane

My friend, ‘A’ just returned from a trip to DisneyWorld (you’ll be happy to know there is no shortage of princess-related items in the souvenir shops) and was telling me about her flight home. It annoyed me so much my right eye started to twitch, so I thought I would pay it forward.

Before the incident took place, she mentioned that 2 soldiers (we’re assuming since they were in fatigues), met another soldier while in line and they offered for lone soldier to sit with them. Personally, I didn’t realize seat assignments were treated so capriciously, especially in this time of “terror.” I guess there’s always an exception.

So, after the plane had taken off and was in the sky, A was awakened by someone’s ostentatious PRAYING. She wasn’t the only one who noticed, her seat mate, turned to her and asked ‘are we in church?’ A looked behind her and several rows back, the (previously) lone soldier, flanked on either side by the other two soldiers, had his eyes closed and was “praying” loudly enough for all to hear. From lotsa “Lords” to obscure biblical references, this went on for 10 minutes or longer. Abso-fuckin’-lutely ridiculous!

First off, I would have been on that stewardess call button, like white on rice. Of course I’m sure if the stewardess tried to interject that he keep it to himself, the combination of military personnel + Christian would make them exempt from those rules reserved for the rest of civilized society. Because, as you know, if you question Jesus or black people (which all three were) you might as well have a swastika tattooed on your forehead.

I just find it appalling that everyone else is expected to be held captive to YOUR beliefs, meanwhile if someone was loudly verbalizing their political beliefs to a captive audience, there would be blood. I’m all for ‘to each his own,’ but I’m fed up with the religious zealots and their total lack of reverence for anyone but their own kind. Keep it to yourself, folks. Involuntary indoctrination is the quickest path to scorn. Unfortunately, my scorn was established some time ago, bust shit like this just continues to reinforce my thoughts on the topic of ‘religion.’

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
— Matthew 6:6

(words of Jesus himself)

Displays like that are not religion, they are attention whoring, period.
